Summer is almost over, and we are about to enter our third season with COVID-19. The pandemic has changed our lives, and as these unprecedented days continue, we want you to know that The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel continues it's mission to provide for the hungry and homeless in Montclair, the most at-risk members of our community.
COVID -19 forced us to make adjustments to our service delivery process that were difficult, but we were soon back in stride and we have increased our services significantly. Since March , we have served 5,374 lunches (on site, “to go”), and provided our guests with 4,241 snack bags that include bottled water and fresh fruit. Our lunch program has always been a combination of the meal and the community we could provide, COVID-19 made it necessary to adjust to this new way to provide our services and maintain safety for all. We have met the challenges and expanded our food program to include the distribution of groceries for individuals and families in need. Since May we have provided over 400 households with 30,700 meals. Our concern is that the issue of food insecurity will not only continue but intensify over the next months.
We continue to provide access to shower and clean clothing to our friends needing that service. For those who need this service, it is the only time each week that they are indoors. Our social service office is open, and our caseworkers are providing assistance with rent and utility payments in a safe environment.
We make adjustments in our service delivery system as needed and we continue pressing on in our call ‘to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.’
Our promise is, and always has been, that we will do the most good we can with your donation. If you have any questions about the ongoing services of Montclair Citadel, about how your gift will be used to serve our at-risk neighbors, or about anything else regarding The Salvation Army in our community, please feel free to contact us – we would love to connect with you.
